Description of experiment
Below follows a plain text transcript of the selected
experiment.
Needed compounds: ----------------- sodium sulfite : Na2SO3 hydrochloric acid : HCl ferric chloride : FeCl3 . 6H2O
Class: ------ elem=Fe,S coordination
Summary: -------- Ferric ions form a coordination complex with sulfite.
Description: ------------ Add a slightly acidified solution of ferric chloride to a solution of sodium sulfite: The liquid becomes turbid for a moment, but after the initial transient it turns clear again. The liquid becomes intense red/brown. A coordination complex is formed between ferric ions and sulfite.
