Description of experiment
Below follows a plain text transcript of the selected
experiment.
Needed compounds: ----------------- hydrogen peroxide : H2O2 hydrochloric acid : HCl sodium chloride : NaCl palladium chloride : PdCl2
Class: ------ elem=Pd redox
Summary: -------- Palladium (II) is not oxidized by H2O2 in acidic environments.
Description: ------------ Add some PdCl2 to an excess amount of a solution of NaCl: The PdCl2 dissolves and the resulting liquid is clear and brown.
Add some hydrochloric acid (appr. 10% by weight) to the brown liquid: No visible changes.
Add some hydrogen peroxide (appr. 10% by weight): No visible changes.
Heat the liquid: A lot of oxygen is produced, the color of the liquid, however, does not change.
