Description of experiment

Below follows a plain text transcript of the selected experiment.

Needed compounds:
-----------------
  hydrochloric acid : HCl
  zinc oxide : ZnO
  potassium ferricyanide : K3 [Fe(CN)6]
  potassium ferrocyanide : K4 [Fe(CN)6] . 3H2O

Class:
------
  elem=Fe,Zn
  precipitation

Summary:
--------
Both ferrocyanide and ferricyanide react with zinc salts, yielding
  completely differently colored solid compounds.

Description:
------------
Dissolve some zinc oxide in an excess amount of HCl (appr. 10% by weight):
The liquid becomes clear and colorless. This solution is called solution Z.

Add a solution of potassium ferrocyanide to solution Z: Formation of a
white precipitate.

Add a solution of potassium ferricyanide to solution Z: Formation of a
yellow/orange precipitate.
