Description of experiment
Below follows a plain text transcript of the selected
experiment.
Needed compounds: ----------------- sodium borohydride : NaBH4 tetrachloro auric acid : HAuCl4 . 2H2O
Class: ------ elem=Au redox
Summary: -------- Gold (III) is reduced by borohydride to its metallic state. A colloidal "solution" of gold is formed.
Description: ------------ Add a drop of a solution of NaBH4 to a solution of HAuCl4.3H2O, containing approximately (0.01% of gold): A deep blue/black liquid is formed. This is due to very finely divided metallic gold. No precipitate can be observed.
