Description of experiment
Below follows a plain text transcript of the selected
experiment.
Needed compounds: ----------------- sodium metabisulfite : Na2S2O5 potassium ferricyanide : K3 [Fe(CN)6] ferrous sulfate : FeSO4 . 7H2O
Class: ------ elem=Fe precipitation coordination
Summary: -------- Prussian blue cannot easily be reduced by acidic sulfite.
Description: ------------ Add a solution of ferrous sulfate and potassium hexacyanoferrate (III) to each other: The resulting liquid becomes intensely colored, deep blue. A dark blue precipitate appears.
Add an excess amount of sodium metabisulfite: The solid dissolves. The liquid does not change noticably.
