Description of experiment
Below follows a plain text transcript of the selected
experiment.
Needed compounds: ----------------- potassium ferricyanide : K3 [Fe(CN)6] potassium ferrocyanide : K4 [Fe(CN)6] . 3H2O chrome alum : KCr(SO4)2 . 12H2O
Class: ------ elem=Cr,Fe coordination
Summary: -------- Cr (III) reacts with the hexacyanoferrate (II) and hexacyanoferrate (III).
Description: ------------ Make three solutions in water: 1) Chrome alum: pale purple liquid 2) potassium hexacyanoferrate (II): almost colorless liquid 3) potassium hexacyanoferrate (III): yellow liquid
Add part of (1) to (2): The resulting liquid is green (mossy color) and clear.
Add part of (1) to (3): The resulting liquid is green (mossy color) and clear. It appears to be slightly more yellowish. This may be due to the color of excess hexacyanoferrate (III).
