Description of experiment
Below follows a plain text transcript of the selected
experiment.
Needed compounds: ----------------- sodium persulfate : Na2S2O8 sulphuric acid : H2SO4 vanadyl sulfate : VOSO4.5H2O
Class: ------ elem=V redox
Summary: -------- Peroxodisulfate ([S2O8]2-) is capable of oxidizing vanadyl ([VO]2+) to pervanadyl ([VO2]+), but this reaction proceeds slowly.
Description: ------------ Add an excess amount of Na2S2O8 to an acidified solution of vanadyl sulfate (acidified with some sulfuric acid): The liquid remains blue. After a few hours the liquid has turned apple-green. One day later the liquid has turned yellow.
