Description of experiment
Below follows a plain text transcript of the selected
experiment.
Needed compounds: ----------------- ammonium molybdate : (NH4)6Mo7O24 . 4H2O phosphoric acid : H3PO4
Class: ------ elem=Mo,P coordination
Summary: -------- Phosphates and molybdates are supposed to form a yellow complex. Other experiments confirm this reaction, but this experiment does not show such behavior. May be longer heating is required or an excess amount of a strong acid is required?
Description: ------------ Add some solid ammonium molybdate to some phosphoric acid (appr. 8% by weight: The solid dissolves. The liquid remains colorless.
Heat the liquid for a while (a few minutes) and keep at a temperature near the boiling point of water: No visible changes, the liquid remains clear and colorless.
