Description of experiment
Below follows a plain text transcript of the selected
experiment.
Needed compounds: ----------------- hydrogen peroxide : H2O2 sulphuric acid : H2SO4 potassium hexa nitrito cobaltate (III) : K3 [Co(NO2)6] . H2O
Class: ------ elem=Co redox
Summary: -------- The hexanitrito cobaltate (III) ion is stable towards dilute sulphuric acid. Addition of hydrogen peroxide also does not destroy the yellow complex.
Description: ------------ Add some solid cobalt yellow to a mix of dilute sulphuric acid and hydrogen peroxide, which contains appr. 1 M H2SO4 and 5% H2O2 by weight: No visible changes besides the bubbling, due to decomposition of H2O2. The liquid remains turbid and yellow.
