Description of experiment
Below follows a plain text transcript of the selected
experiment.
Needed compounds: ----------------- ammonia : NH3 potassium ferrocyanide : K4 [Fe(CN)6] . 3H2O copper sulfate penta hydrate : CuSO4 . 5H2O
Class: ------ elem=Cu,Fe coordination precipitation
Summary: -------- Copper (II) reacts with ferrocyanide and builds a fairly stable compound.
Description: ------------ Add a solution of CuSO4.5H2O to a solution of K4[Fe(CN)6].3H2O (excess amount of potassium ferrocyanide): Formation of a purplish brown precipitate, which looks like a little sponge. When handled carefully it can be kept as one piece.
Add a large amount of ammonia (15% by weight): The liquid turns dark blue, but not all of the precipitate dissolves.
