Description of experiment
Below follows a plain text transcript of the selected
experiment.
Needed compounds: ----------------- potassium bromate : KBrO3 potassium chlorate : KClO3 silver nitrate : AgNO3
Class: ------ elem=Ag,Cl,Br precipitation
Summary: -------- Silver (I) forms a precipitate with bromates, while it does not do so with chlorates.
Description: ------------ Add a solution of silver nitrate to a solution of potassium chlorate: No visible changes, no precipitate is formed and the liquid remains colorless.
Add a solution of silver nitrate to a solution of potassium bromate: A white precipitate is formed. The precipitate is pure white, not like silver bromide, which is off-white, pale yellow.
