Results for 'K':
EXPERIMENT 1 --------------- Potassium perchlorate is only marginally soluble in cold water, while being much more soluble in hot water. From perchloric acid solutions, one can easily precipitate KClO4, almost quantitatively. It is funny to see how a potassium salt precipitates so quickly and densely.
EXPERIMENT 2 --------------- Cesium alums seem to be nearly insoluble compounds.
EXPERIMENT 3 --------------- Sulphur and Carbon are mixed, Potassium Nitrate is dissolved in hot water and the Sulphur/Carbon mix is added. Pure Isopropanol is added, and dehydrates the water, allowing the KNO3 and S/C to mix closely. The wet powder is filtered via a vacuum filter, and is dried using ambient heat. This produces fast-burning gunpowder.
EXPERIMENT 4 --------------- Thallium(I) metaperiodate is very much like potassium metaperiodate, but it decomposes easily due to an internal redox reaction in which thallium(III) is formed, which forms a precipitate with periodate ion.
EXPERIMENT 5 --------------- Hydrofluoric acid (48% by weight) dissolves potassium chlorate and potassium bromate much more easily than water. The bromate also slowly decomposes in a peculiar way, which is not observed in other acidic solutions (like sulphuric or nitric acids).
