Lithium  -  Li

A sample of a few grams of lithium, immersed in clear mineral oil. Most remarkable is that the lithium is floating in the oil. The container was put upside down, before the picture was made. The density of lithium is so low, that it floats on almost all liquids, even on low-density liquids like paraffin oil. The metal is somewhat tarnished at the ends of the rod, the middle part of the rod (which always is in the oil) still is shiny with a grayish/silvery color.
