These are pieces of electrolytically produced cobalt of high purity. The pure metal has a grey hue, which under certain light-conditions almost looks a little bit yellow, as shown by the left piece of metal. The piece with the globules is somewhat oxidized and this is covered by a layer of black cobaltosic oxide (Co₃O₄).

This is a sample of approximately 7 grams, the largest piece at the left having a diameter of approximately 2 cm at its longest diameter.
